Originally called ''Castello di Corsignano''. Pienza got its actual name from pope Pio II, born and raised here. In the second half of the 1400’s he decided to start building ''the ideal city''. The whole town is like a small jewel, specially the Duomo, with art-work from Giovanni di Paolo, Matteo di Giovanni del Vechiietta and from Sano di Pietro.
