Sorrounding the area are the vineyards of the local wine, the most important being the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG.
Emerged in the heart of the history of ancient Etruscan civilization and a short distance from some of the historical towns of Pienza, Monticchiello and San Quirico. Nearby also is Montalcino ,famous for its vineyards, and Sant'Antimo, famous for its Alabaster.
The thermal spas of Chianciano, San Filippo, Bagno Vignoni and Sant'Albino are all close.

The whole town is like a small jewel, specially the Duomo, with art-work from Giovanni di Paolo, Matteo di Giovanni del Vechiietta and from Sano di Pietro.

Fortified town on the old Cassia road. The town is less known then the other towns in the province of Siena but it is of a rare beauty. Almost unspoiled are the town walls from the 14th century decorated with 14 small towers. Inside the walls one will find the wonderful roman church from the 2nd century.

Close to San Quirico d'Orcia one will find the well known and  antique baths of Bagno Vignoni, with its 36 ''holes'' of warm water coming from a depth from about  a 1000m.

Situated on top of a hill, overlooking the Val d'Orcia

Situated on top of a hill, overlooking the Val d'Orcia, Val dell'Arbia and the Val dell'Ombrone. Walking through the town, one can enjoy the beautiful vies but also enjoy the wonderful buildings, such as the palazzo Comunale, former office of the Priori, severe stone building with a tower,  decorated with coat-of-arms. A neo-classic cathedral built on a small church from the year 1000. and more buildings from the XIV-XV century.

By Car

From the north - from the autoroute A1 - Take exit Valdichiana-Bettolle ( N.28). Pass through Bettolle in drection Torrita di Siena (5 Km). Arriving at Torrita follow direction Montepulciano (8 Km). Arriving at Montepulciano follow signs towards Pienza. After the junction, just past the petrol station (Tamoil) carry on for 100 yards, welcome to Hotel San Biagio which is on your left!

From the south - from the autoroute A1- Take exit Chiusi-Chianciano Terme (N.29). Follow in direction Chianciano Terme (7 Km). Pass through Chianciano Terme following directions for Montepulciano (10 Km).
Arriving at Montepulciano crossroads, follow direction Pienza. After the petrol station, Tamoil, approx 100 yards, welcome to Hotel San Biagio which is on the left.

A little Castle, perched on the top of a hill, seems to be another sentinel, like many others on the surrounding hills of the valley of the river Orcia. Here we have one of the most fascinating frescoes of Tuscany, made unique by the presence of the mount Amiata, seducing us with the authentic "mezze lune" glowing depending on the season.

Il Bravio delle Botti è la sfida che si disputa ogni anno a Montepulciano

Il Bravio delle Botti (trae le sue origini nel XIV secolo) è la sfida che si disputa ogni anno a Montepulciano tra le 8 Contrade di Montepulciano (Cagnano, Collazzi, Gracciano, Le Coste, Poggiolo, San Donato, Talosa, Voltaia), l'ultima domenica di agosto in onore del santo patrono, San Giovanni Decollato.

Originariamente il Bravio, così come il più noto Palio di Siena, era corso con i cavalli. In seguito, verso la fine del XVII secolo, venne soppresso per motivi di ordine pubblico.

La corsa si svolge lungo le vie principali della città: due uomini detti "spingitori" (solitamente atleti, in molti casi maratoneti) spingono una botte del peso di 80 kg. per il percorso, lungo circa 1700 metri. La partenza è presso la Colonna del Marzocco, mentre l'arrivo è situato in Piazza Grande, sul sagrato del Duomo di Montepulciano.
